ROLE OF RESEARCH AND DEVELOPMENT DEPARTMEN

The investigative activities a business conducts to improve existing products and procedures or to lead to the development of new products and procedures is known as research and development (R&D).

A thorough study is conducted by the research and development department before the development of a new product. The research phase includes determining product specifications, production costs and a production time line.

Research helps to evaluate the functionality of a product before it is designed. Existing products of the company also fall under the scope of research and development. The department regularly evaluates the products offered by the company to ensure they are still functional. Potential changes or upgrades are considered. In some cases, the research and development department is asked to resolve a problem with an existing product that malfunctions or to find a new solution if the manufacturing process changes.

The research and development team aids the company in staying competitive with others in the industry. The department is able to research and analyze the products other businesses are creating, as well as the new trends within the industry. This allows the department to develop and update the products created by the company.

ROLE OF QUALITY CONTROL DEPARTMENT

Our quality control departments perform inspection and test activities. They sort good products from bad products and authorize the release of good products. Quality control departments also perform supplier control activities which are called supplier quality assurance or vendor control. In this respect, they are authorized to release products from suppliers into the organization either from the supplier’s premises or on receipt in the organization. Quality control prevents undesirable changes being present in the quality of the product or service being supplied. Quality control can be applied to particular products, to processes which produce the products or to the output of the whole organization by measuring the overall quality performance of the organization.

Control of quality, or anything else for that matter, can be accomplished by the following steps:

Determine what parameter is to be controlled.

Establish its criticality and whether you need to control before, during or after results are produced.

Establish a specification for the parameter to be controlled which provides limits of acceptability and units of measure.

Produce plans for control which specify the means by which the characteristics will be achieved and variation detected and removed.

Organize resources to implement the plans for quality control

Collect and transmit data to a place for analysis.

Verify the results and diagnose the cause of variance.

Propose remedies and decide on the action needed to restore the status.

Take the agreed action and check that the variance has been corrected.
